5/5 Excellent water butt, seems robust and prompt delivery.

4/5 I have a square rather than circular drain pipe and it fitted easily enough. Only slight con is that you have to cut the hole in the water butt and i didn't have any attachments for that. You don't want to get it wrong or the pipe won't fit

5/5 Great product, got all the bits in one package, received within 1 week of ordering...Followed instructions, everthing fitted right frist time, works like a charm...Would recommend

5/5 Great product easily installed

5/5 Excellent product. Good quality. Contained all the connection parts plus a substantial base. Delivered within a few days. (bought a second!)

5/5 Exellent product will know more after the next really hard frost

3/5 Positive: this is a sturdy water butt with a large capacity. It was delivered in around two weeks. It comes complete with a stand and fittings for a drain pipe.

Neutral: you need some diy skills to fit the fittings to the drain pipe and you also need to have a 25mm drill bit to make a hole in the top of the water butt. I had to borrow one from a neighbour.

Negative: the base comes in three pieces that have to be placed on a flat surface to make sure that they interlock. The interlocking lips are quite small and so any uneven ground means that it will be awkward to get it to stay as one assembly.
Fitting the water tap is an art in contortion. I am quite tall and i only just managed to reach into the base of the water butt to get the nut on the back of the tap. If you are stick thin you'll be able to fit inside it by putting it over your head which might make it easier.
The hose connecting the down pipe attachment to the water butt was delivered with a split in it, but on the positive side this was replaced free of charge.

On balance this is an ok water butt, but surely some aspects could be designed slightly better.

The consolation is that once it is fitted, you will be saving water.

5/5 Great price and top quality. Easy to install with standard kit supplied if adjacent to the downpipe. If you need to move it further away try local aquarium/tropical fish outlet for a suitable black 3/4 inch diameter extension hose, for about £2 per metre. Although

5/5 Needed long arms to fit the tap but otherwise easy to set up. Very good value for money - 2nd one we've bought as so pleased with the first one.

5/5 Very pleased, this is the second water butt i've bought. Great service delivered within a few days. All set up in no time at all. All i need now is some rain !!

4/5 Prompt delivery. Easy to assemble, but does need drilling.

5/5 This butt is large, tho not quite as large as our other four butts which cost considerably more. It is tucked away in the corner of our front garden and is not at all noticeable. It is great for watering the garden without having to continually go round to the back garden to get water. I can recommend this product, especially for the price.

5/5 Looks good. Neat. Tidy and as unobtrusive as a water butt on it's stand could be. Excellent product.

3/5 The butt is ideal for storing rain water and appears to be robust enough for the job however setting it up is not the easiest of tasks.
1. Fitting the tap was an art in reaching the botton of the butt.
2. There is no hole drilled at top of butt for the down pipe feed - you need to drill your own hole.
3. The base does not stay together until there is a fair amount of water in the butt.
4. The plastic on the lid is brittkle and breaks easily - watch out for the latch don't use a screw driver to turn it because it breaks the slots to turn the latch.

3/5 Probably ok - but the directions refer to a mark on the inner rim to make the hole for the water pipe insertion, and it doesn't exist. Also a 25mm drill is hardly a common tool, and this could have been stated more obviously as a requirement. We were expecting a "punch out" arrangement really.

Still, once its all set up maybe it will all be fine.

3/5 I found the tap connection very very difficult and had to get my neighbour to crawl in to place the securing screw so that i could put the tap on. Some butts have just got a screw on tap without having to crawl into the barrell. This i think is a flaw in the design, not very practical. I also didn't find the instructions for connecting the overflow to the down pipe very clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions about this product, please let us know and we'll do our best to answer.

How does a Water Butt work?

A Rainwater Butt collects rainwater from your gutters and is connected to a downpipe. If you are using a downpipe, you will also need an overflow pipe or a rain diverter to redirect water into the waterbutt. Once the Water Butt is full, water flows down the drainpipe. A gutter filter will also keep out unwanted debris.

What about cleaning a Water Butt?

If you get a Waterbutt with a removable lid then you can easily clean it. Make sure the lid is well fitting to keep out unwanted debris and insects.

Do I need any special equipment to fit my Water Butt?

To install your Water Butt you will need a power drill fitted with a hole saw, a hacksaw and a tape measure.

How do I install my Water Butt?

Always refer to the manufacturers instructions but basically you will need to find a convenient downpipe for the Water Butt and place the Waterbutt stand beneath it. The butt needs to be raised high enough off the ground for a watering can to fit under the tap.

Place the Water Butt on the stand and mark its height on the downpipe. Cut the downpipe 3cm below this point with a hacksaw.

Attach the rain diverter fitting to the downpipe; the cut section of downpipe fits onto the bottom of the diverter.

Measure 8cm down from the top of the water butt and drill a hole through which the water butt connector is fitted.

Attach the water butt connector to the water butt by pushing through the drilled hole and screwing fittings into place.

Attach the water butt connector to the rainwater diverter with the supplied fittings. Place the lid on the butt and lock it into place.

Will the water butt down pipe connector fit a square downpipe?

The downpipe connector which comes as standard with the water butts fits both a round and square downpipe - it will fit a 'standard' square downpipe which is 65mm. The connectors are available in black.

How does the Downpipe connection kit work?

The Downpipe connection kit simply intercepts the water as it comes down the downpipe and feeds it into your Waterbutt. Once the Waterbutt is full it then stops accepting further rainwater and the rainwater continues down your downpipe into the drain. It is very simple to fit - you just need to drill a small hole on the side of the Waterbutt (to connect the inlet hose) and cut a small slice from your downpipe (to fit the diverter part). Instructions are provided.

Is it OK to put bathwater into a Water Butt?

No! Only Rainwater should go into Water Butts. Greywater is dirty water and is any water from your home apart from the toilet. Never put greywater into a Water Butt. This can pose a human health risk and greywater should never be stored.

Do I need to add anything to the water in the Water Butt?

Rainwater can generally be stored for long periods without problems. There are products such as the FreshaTank Microbial Disc which can be added to Water Butts to ensure no odour and bacterial build-up. A close fitting lid should help you avoid unwanted debris and insects.

What should I do with my Water Butt during the winter months?

If there is a risk of freezing weather, it is advisable to empty your Water Butt.

My delivery is late. What should I do?

Due to the popularity of our water butts especially in the spring, we advise that it may take up to 28 days for you to receive your water butt. Generally all water butts are received within our 10 day delivery promise however if your order is taking longer than this, then please email customerservice@savewatersavemoney.co.uk with your order number and we'll be happy to let you know a delivery date.

What if I am out when the delivery takes place?

Our couriers have permission to leave goods in a safe place if there is one. There is a 'Delivery Instructions' box on the checkout screen when you make your order, here you can give us specific details of where to leave the delivery if you are out.
